Homeless Prevention

For every one one unhoused person who finds housing, three more lose their homes. That’s why we aim to stop homelessness before it starts, by providing emergency rental assistance and housing retention case management.

Emergency Rental Assistance

In partnership with Destination: Home, our case management team works with tenants and their landlords to apply for, review, and renew requests for emergency rental assistance through the Santa Clara County’s Homeless Prevention System Program. We also advocate with landlords on their tenants’ behalf to encourage participation in the program, and cooperation with their tenants, in order to keep them in their homes.

Housing Retention Case Management

Stopping an eminent eviction is only the first step in providing triage for a tenant’s crisis. We also work with tenants to identify and eliminate barriers to sustaining their housedstatus. These interventions can include job training and job searching to find and secure a position or career that will increase their income. We may refer the tenant to financial management training, or help to identify more affordable housing opportunities. Additional resource referrals might include utility cost assistance, affordable child care, or legal assistance for tenant/landlord disputes.
