Meet Our Team

South County Compassion Center is a non-profit organization consisting of approximately seven employees, with oversight by a eight-member board of directors, and guidance provided by a two-person advisory board.

We also have the generous support of volunteers, who collectively contribute thousands of hours each year. Volunteers fill a variety of roles; if you’re interested in volunteering with us, please have a look at our Volunteer page.

Board of Directors

  • Michael R. Beasley, Chair

    Michael Beasley is the retired Chairman of the Board of Rocket Software. Previously, he was CEO of Icing Software, an independent business unit of IBM Software.

    Michael joined IBM in 1971 and his career has centered on software and hardware engineering/business management.Michael was also the former Chairman of the Board of MESA (Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement). In 2000, he was named by Black Press Online as the most prominent African American in High Technology. He earned his Masters degree from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.

  • Steve Tate, Vice Chair

    Steve has had two successful and rewarding careers. In his 38-year career with IBM, he worked primarily in marketing and management roles supporting storage and software products.

    In his second career, he spent 27 years with the City of Morgan Hill on their Planning Commission, City Council, and twelve years as Mayor, retiring in December 2018.

    Steve is a member of the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill; a Board member of Boys and Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley; and a Board member of Leadership Morgan Hill, where he received their Leadership Excellence Award in 2019.

    Laurie has held a number of volunteer positions in the Saratoga, California community. In 1989, she joined what became LSA Global, a business training and consulting firm, and served in several roles including Customer Service Manager and Sales Account Manager. She now supports LSA as an Independent Consultant by writing and editing articles for their website.

    She and her husband, Dick, moved to Morgan Hill in 2016. They have two children and five grandchildren. As part of Dick’s 35-year-old adventure travel business, they enjoy leading travel expeditions around the world.

    Laurie has co-authored a book on grand-parenting that is now in its second printing.

  • Tristia Bauman

    Tristia Bauman is a civil rights attorney who has spent her career advocating for unhoused and marginalized people. As a senior attorney at the National Homelessness Law Center in D.C., Tristia launched the Housing Not Handcuffs Justice Network, which is a national network of attorneys working to end the criminalization of homelessness. Before that, Tristia served as an assistant public defender in Miami-Dade County. Tristia is currently the Legal Director of the Housing Unit at the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley.

  • Dale Cooper

    Dale Cooper is the founder and president of D & M Traffic Services, Inc. (1990) and Innovative Traffic Products, Inc. (2017), both of which are focused on product sales and rentals serving the transportation construction industry.

    Over the years, Dale has had the opportunity to lead and teach staff, as well as learn from them. Dale has been privileged to work with people from many walks of life, and enjoys his involvement with Gilroy Compassion Center.

    Dale has been a board member of the Gilroy Compassion Center since 2019, and served as its Executive Director from October 2019 through August, 2020.

  • Laura Guio

    Laura Guio serves as the Senior State Executive for California, providing leadership for IBM in the community, linking corporate citizenship activities with strategic IBM initiatives, and leveraging the resources of IBM to achieve strategic business goals.

    She serves on the Board of Directors for Silicon Valley Leadership Group which comprises 70 CEOs and CIOs from leading companies in Silicon Valley with the objective to drive programs and campaigns that affect the economic health and quality of life in Silicon Valley.

    She also helped establish and serve on the Board of Directors for San Jose’s “Talent Task Force,” led by the Mayor of San Jose.

  • Rachel Sanchez-Parodi

    Rachel Sanchez-Parodi retired after working for over 23 years with Silicon Valley technical companies in Human Resources, focused on Talent Acquisition.

    She was a founding member of the Gilroy Compassion Center, where she served as Secretary and Treasurer from 2010 to 2015. Rachel has also served as a Child Advocate for the County of Santa Clara and was a member of the City of Gilroy Housing Advisory Committee.

    Rachel holds a B.A. degree in Business and Human Resources from San Jose State University.
