Our Impact
The Compassion Center serves around 1,500 people each year.
At South County Compassion Center, our team and volunteers are dedicated to helping people in South Santa Clara County who don’t have a home. Our many services and programs touch the majority of people experiencing homelessness in South Santa Clara County in one way or another.
We serve around 1,500 people per year by taking care of both their immediate needs and their dreams for a better future. We provide important things like food, clothes, shoes, and personal hygiene products. We also have showers and laundry facilities for them to use. By taking care of these needs, we help people feel respected and show them that someone cares.
But we don’t stop there. We also help people find a place to live and teach them the skills they need to keep their homes. Our goal is to help our neighbors build a better, more stable future. Thanks to the hard work of our team and the generous support from our donors and volunteers, we are making a real difference and bringing hope to our community.
How the Combined Efforts of Our Team, Volunteers, Donors, and Your Support Create Lasting Impact
Your support, no matter the size, can make a big difference in our community. Even a small gesture can have a huge impact. For example, a hygiene kit lovingly put together by our volunteers can bring comfort and dignity to someone in need.
Sharing our cause on social media spreads the word and creates a ripple of positivity. And a donation of a clean pair of shoes can provide years of support and relief for someone who needs them. Every act of kindness helps us create a brighter, more caring community together.
Fiscal Year: June 1st, 2023 to July 30th, 2024
During our last fiscal year—June 1, 2023 to July 30, 2024—130 people found permanent housing with the support of a Compassion Center program. These are children, women, and men who could otherwise still be living without a home.

By the Numbers: Annually
130 Clients Returned to Stable Housing
As the first point of contact for most unhoused clients in our area, we enter them into the county-wide database that assesses their vulnerability and places them on a list for housing. By providing this service and connection to other services, more of our residents who have lost their homes are finding new ones. 30 of these individuals gained their permanent units through our Safe Parking program.
More than 78,877 basic needs services delivered each year
250 days a year, we provide food, water, showers, laundry, hygiene items, access to clothing and mail delivery to the vast majority of unhoused residents of South Santa Clara County.
Food for 114,968 meals
We provide enough food for two meals a day to most of our unhoused residents in South County.
More than 1,000 showers and laundry services
We’ve partnered with The Salvation Army Gilroy to provide laundry and shower services twice a week.
More than 700 personal care items
We provide hygiene items such as toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, and soap. This allows our unhoused residents not only to stay clean and healthy, but also hold on to a sense of dignity.
As the largest local non-profit exclusively supporting the unhoused, our programs and services are many and varied. We get funding from federal, state, and local governments, plus grants and individual contributions. Learn more about each of our programs on our Services pages.
